” Cymru am byth (Wales, and, urm, private equity forever)
A new lower mid-market firm has joined just a handful of private equity houses based in Wales
Wales is better known for coal mining, Dylan Thomas and its 10 million sheep than its private equity market but that hasn’t stopped a media veteran and a former Welsh Rugby Union executive from launching a mid-market firm in its capital.
Mark Loosemore, former group commercial director at Welsh Rugby Union, and Simon Clegg, former chief executive of production company Above the Title, founded Cardiff-based Mackintosh Capital to target early-stage deals in Wales and South West England. The company incorporated in October, according to Companies House. The firm will make investments of up to £1m, according to its website.
Mackintosh joins just a handful of private equity firms based in Wales including government-backed Finance Wales Investments, UK Steel Enterprises, a specialist investor owned by a subsidiary of Tata Steel Group and WestBridge Fund Managers.
Still more sheep than buyouts, then.”
